THE HOME OF YOUR DREAMS
THE HOME OF YOUR DREAMS
As you ascend the beautiful concrete driveway winding around a perfect hilltop, you can just feel you are about to see something magnificent. The driveway at the top flows onto a expansive concreted area and there before your eyes appears a beautiful home crafted out of Hinuera Stone.
Owners of NuVista Homes Brad and Rachel say this was a build close to their hearts and a labour of love from planning to completion – a dream come true for their grandparents Henry and Ann Clothier.
This beautifully built home was built with much love by many family hands. As well as the team from NuVista, the construction crew also included Richard Clothier, the eldest son of Henry and Ann, their grandson Ross McVerry, and Max Clothier, another grandson who worked on the build during time off from his other jobs.
As you walk into the entrance, beautifully designed by architect Darren McCutchan, a real presence comes over you. Ann and Henry’s love for an appealing mix of antiques and modern design stands out against the large window framing an exquisite view of the Waikato River.
You immediately realise this home embraces its environment in order to capture the incredible all round views, with careful thought being given to the way they bring the light and the sense of peacefulness from being on a hilltop inside. Flowing to the left is a separate wing for guests, while to the right is another wing for entertaining and living.

Working with such a unique site and meeting the family, the vision of this build was apparent from the beginning. I wanted to frame the incredible panoramic views with a true indoor outdoor feel, so expansive glass was going to be very important. The angles of the home, especially the living area, had to be positioned to maximise the potential for big family gatherings, entertaining guests and to fully optimise views of the Waikato river and the beautiful landscape surrounding the home.

I just loved the beautiful floor to ceiling sliding corner doors on both entrances to the formal lounge. They allow this beautiful room to be opened up to the incredible views and open plan design flowing into the second living room, dining, kitchen and outdoor living area, or it can be closed off when not in use.
At the centre of the recessed 3m pattern- pressed tin ceiling, a sparkling antique chandelier provides the desired air of formality and antiquity in the room. The mix of modern and traditional that flows through this family heirloom home continues into the Di Rosa kitchen, where a pressed tin splash back frames the rangehood and another pressed tin panel has been recessed into the breakfast bar.
This home, crafted with love, just continues to inspire. The living area is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the panoramic views. A beautifully crafted gas fire enhances the feeling of comfort in the second living room and is perfect for those stormy winter nights.
The dining room is spacious enough for extended family dinners, and the indoor outdoor flow from here to the tiled patio creates an incredible entertaining area, where you can wile away those stunning summer nights, watching the incredible hues of the setting sun.
Ann picked stunning sheer curtains from Guthrie Bowron which add a classy look all of their own without interfering with the natural light flowing through the many spacious windows.
The thought given to the surrounding panorama even extends to the laundry – with views like this even doing the chores in this home is a pleasure.
Speaking with Brad and Rachel, they said their most favourite part of this NuVista build was spending time together as a family and creating memories for future generations.
There was a lot of time and planning put into every aspect of the job before the first foundations could be laid. You can certainly feel the love and integrity which went into building this home. The pride and standard of workmanship is without doubt second to none, making it a stand out testament to the quality of NuVista Homes.
Talking with Brad and Rachel they are excited about the future and want to concentrate on creating healthy, practical and sustainable homes. With their love for design and build, they pride themselves on going the extra mile for their clients and getting a real feel for their needs, and on creating builds with a level of perfectionism and attention to detail that speaks for itself.
In fact, Brad informed me that there is 1.4 kilometres of timber in the roof of their grandparents Henry and Ann’s home, along with 15,000 nails – now that’s attention to detail. The master bedroom and ensuite certainly speak to this appreciation for getting the details right.
Ann has a beautiful coloured feature wall to add a bit of drama, but can still wake up to tranquil views every morning.
With Henry’s fondness for New Zealand’s native birds, an exquisite glass shower divider is artfully decorated with the image of a Tui commissioned specifically for him. The Tui has been hand painted using porcelain paint.
During the fitting of the glass, the installers commented on how perfectly symmetrical the walls and floor were, meaning that the glass could be fitted with absolute ease – talk about build perfection!
Brad and Rachel of NuVista Homes say, “this home came together in such a beautiful, simple and elegant way, it was sheer joy for all the family involved in the build to see Henry and Ann’s smiles on the day they moved in to their dream home.”
Brad and Rachel would also like to acknowledge all the build partners involved, saying they absolutely had a hand in seeing the family’s dream come true.
This has been one of the best experiences life could offer – a spectacular project, built on the foundations of family, love, commitment, vision and imagination. It leaves a legacy that can only be enhanced with time and the creation of many more family memories for generations to come.
